Students must be in-person, on-time, attend the entire duration of lecture, and participate in the attendance poll to earn attendance credit for lectures.
Students that are ill should not attend class and do not need pre-approval to miss class. Students need to only attend 70% of lectures to satisfy the Participation learning outcome. There are no excused absences beyond that cutoff. Students unable to meet that minimum should focus on a different elective learning outcome.
Students may optionally participate in off-campus events to meet the requirements of the Engagement learning outcome. Example events include tech conferences, hackathons, or field trips to local tech companies.
BEFORE students may attend an off-campus event as part of this course, they must get pre-approval from the instructor and submit a Liability Waiver form. If under 18 years old, students must have the form signed by a parent or guardian.
Students may not miss lectures to attend these events if it will cause them to no longer meet the Participation learning outcome requirements.
Instructure Canvas will be used for course announcements and communication. Students are strongly encouraged to configure their Canvas course notifications to receive timely notification of these communications.
There are no deadline extensions for requirements where a percentage of the work must be submitted on-time, except in case of SDS accommodations or extenuating circumstances occurring a week before a deadline.
Students that are unable to submit enough work on-time for required learning outcomes should consult with the instructor, and should select an alternative if struggling with an elective learning outcome.
Students should still complete late work regardless, as it can help meet other requirements. For example, completing a late timesheet will still help earn credit for time spent on out-of-class work.
All students must adhere to the Student Conduct Code on campus and at any related University event.
Students should also be mindful of ways language and terminology, especially within the CS and tech fields, are anti-inclusive to many communities. Refer to the Google Developer Documentation Style Guide and the UW IT Inclusive Language Guide for concrete examples of how to speak and write more inclusively within this field.
