Credit Hour Policy

The USF Credit Hour Policy states that students must complete a minimum of 4 hours of out-of-class student work per week for a 2 credit course over a 15 week semester, or 60 hours total of out-of-class work.

Students must fulfill this out-of-class time commitment for the Time Management outcome and earn a D– or higher letter grade.

Approved Activities

At least 15 hours of out-of-class time total (approximately 1 hour per week) must be spent working on course-related activities and working towards course learning outcomes.

The remaining time (approximately 3 to 4 hours per week) may include time spent out-of-class on other CS major requirements (or prerequisites) that meet specific Time Management and Engagement criteria.

As a result, if students are strategic about how they progress in their other CS major requirements or prerequisites, this class will only add 1 additional hour of work to their weekly schedule.

Time Verification

For students to earn credit for out-of-class work for the time management learning outcome, the time must be included in the relevant weekly report.

When possible, students should note in the weekly report how that time may be externally verified. For independently-completed work that cannot be externally verified, no other proof is required.
